É sabido que na montagem do alegado «ataque químico» em Douma – já desmentido por vários repórteres estrangeiros que estiveram no local e entrevistaram os habitantes --, «ataque cujo único propósito foi justificar o ataque com mísseis dos EUA e aliados – esse bem real e que não esperou pela chegada da delegação da OPAQ --, tiveram papel principal os chamados Capacetes Brancos. Quem são esses Capacetes Brancos? Que papel desempenham em geral? Em vários sites de notícias que consultámos a informação sobre eles é escassa. Encontrámos, porém, um artigo da AbrilAbril, da autoria de Manuel Augusto Araújo, que proporciona uma informação fundamentada sobre eles e que recomendamos. Para o leitor que não lê português deixamos ficar abaixo a tradução em inglês.

It is a known fact that in the fabrication of the alleged "chemical attack" in Douma -- already denied by several foreign reporters who visited the site and interviewed the inhabitants -- an “attack” whose sole purpose was to justify the attack with missiles of the US and allies -- a real one that did not wait for the arrival of the delegation of the OPCW --, the main role was played by the so-called White Helmets. Who are these White Helmets? What role do they play in general? In the several news sites we have consulted the information about them is scarce. We have, however, found an article in AbrilAbril, authored by Manuel Augusto Araújo, which provides well grounded information about them and which we recommend. For the reader who does not read Portuguese, we leave below the English translation.

The false façade of the white helmets

They are in Portugal. It is a good time to unmask this humanitarian terrorist organization whose mission is to whitewash the military actions of the Daesh and al-Qaeda for the public opinion.

The White Helmets have already arrived in Portugal, with strong echoes in the media, as expected. They are supported by a powerful propaganda machine funded with the strong assistance of the Saudi Arabian Wahhabites, of which one of the most active is the billionaire Hani Farsi, financier of a documentary about this NGO invented and organized in 2013 by James Le Mesurier, a security expert and former British military secret agent with a long history in some of NATO's most controversial theaters of intervention: Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine.

Le Mesurier is a product of the British elite of the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, and has also been integrated into a series of top-level missions by the United Nations, the European Union and the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Follow the Money

The first major financiers were the Saudis, then seconded by the foundations of Georges Soros and the governments of the United States and Britain and other Western countries, plus the gifts made through gatherings that are crumbs but make up the photo. In 2016, some sources estimate that this "group of volunteers" received about 300 million dollars.

Not all support is visible, such as the one of USAID, well known for its links to the CIA in the reconversion or attempted reconversion of regimes that evade the hegemonic US sphere in South America, Ukraine and the Middle East. In its July 2015 report, more than 16 million dollars are registered with the White Helmets.

Once the patrons of that troupe had been disclosed, the London newspaper The Telegragh sought to minimize the negative mpact of those revelations by highlighting the "humanitarian role of the White Helmets in Syria", while recognizing what before, with great vehemence, Western governments and media networks linked to them had denied: that the White Helmets were integrated into the ISIS and Al-Qaeda, a fact illustrated by a photo of an ISIS mercenary guarding a White Helmets store where a flag of the Islamic State was raised. In reality they are a façade to whitewash the al-Qaeda terrorists and their heteronyms. It is they who do the human face make up of terrorism.

War propaganda for tender hearts

The White Helmets are assisted by a group of experts on propaganda. It is a well-built machine that fabricates videos to stir the soft hearts of many people of goodwill, innocent and truly concerned about the victims of a brutal war that has never been a civil war -- another big forgery.

They are part of the pinwheel of NGOs working actively to meet the goals of US secret agendas and their varied intelligence services. Their great effectiveness comes from mingling with the NGOs that do commendable humanitarian work. They can even raise honest people in their support and in their ranks, as has happened with other NGOs. Some realize their true objectives when, in the eagerness to quickly achieve results, the bosses issue orders that run counter to the ends of these organizations. This has happened in various parts of the world where they have acted and act: Yugoslavia, Libya, Tunisia, and Sudan. At present they are most active in Syria and Iraq.

The “civil defense” of the Islamic State

When the White Helmets appeared, whoever commanded them was so confident in the advance on the ground of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State that they did not refrain from publishing videos of joint confraternizations celebrating victories. There are still some of these videos on You Tube, though most of them have been deleted and one cannot find a few more of them where they appeared in the beheading sessions mixed with the tormentors at a time when this horror was very popular. In fact the White Helmets operate as the Civil Defense of the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda, the priority of their humanitarian activity has always been the terrorists. They were and are their paramedics.

Once the euphoric time passed away, there emerged the videos saving civilians from the rubble. The excitement of the bloody days when Isis and al-Qaeda occupied a large part of Syrian territory was ending and it was urgent to change the image. Now the videos were multiplying with this new face, from Aleppo and Ghouta, to pressure public opinion on the imminence of the terrorists being defeated -- as it happened.

Lights, action, cut!

Many of these videos were staged, as was demonstrated. If any doubts persisted, it was the rebels themselves of the Syrian Revolutionary Forces who removed videos of rescue operations by the White Helmets, after many of their followers stood against the clear falsification of the filming.

The images of a girl who was rescued at three different locations from miles away, the one of a man being saved from the ruins of a bombed-out building, who freed himself from the hands of his two saviors without problems and full of life -- certainly due to negligence in the cutting of the film or because they were so confident in their power to convince that they thought no one would notice -- became famous. In another video, even more brazen, they tried to revive a mannequin, making him a victim. The evidence did not withstand the most distracted look, and the SRFs excused themselves with such ridiculous rhetoric that it is not broken by a laugh because of the seriousness of the situation on the ground.

The propaganda to which Portugal does not escape

A well-oiled propaganda machine, which includes their coming to Portugal, promoted them as the non-political NGO that they never were. They even managed to get a documentary, paid by Saudi money, about their action on the ground, where their true essence is hidden and their humanitarian work highlighted. A documentary that was candidate to the Oscars and obtained some international awards.

Films and videos are a powerful propaganda and forgery gear. If anyone has doubts, check out all the films about the Vietnam War. Those of Coppola, Apocalypse Now, Kubrik, Born to Kill, Oliver Stone, Platoon or The Hunter of Michael Cimino -- probably another six films -- give a brutal picture of the war, which merely for the excellence of their quality are not buried in the other almost a hundred where the favorite heroes are Stallone and Chuck Norris, much more widespread on television, where it even seems that the United States has won the Vietnam War, a fact the Vietnamese obviously do not know.

The White Helmets propaganda is so effective that some have tried to get them nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which would ease their financial backing and put them in a gallery alongside Obama, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who launched 100,000 bombs and missiles in seven countries, put US military forces in 138 countries -- 60 in the time of George W. Bush -- increased tenfold drone utilization, reaching all civilian and military targets, increased expenditures in military operations at $ 18.7 billion. They would not look bad in such companionship and would illustrate that gallery where peace is a black hole.

A parenthesis for the "fake news"

The war in Syria, since it was unleashed, is an enormous mystification, as José Goulão, in AbrilAbril, has fully demonstrated. The White Helmets, since their inception, are an important piece in this gear and they work hard -- they are paid for that -- in the whitewashing of the terrorist forces. Masked with the humanitarian cover, they are the main source of information and diffusion of "fake news", raising a fierce attack to the advances in the field of the Assad regime. Their reports spread like viruses through social networks, irrespective of their being true or false. They are skilled and experienced in fabricating successes to bleed pious souls around the world and provide evidence that makes irrelevant any other source for the US and its allies to take action against the Syrian government and its allies. The last great performance was in Ghouta, as they had already done in Aleppo. It had an irrefutable aim, to try at least delaying the attacks of the Syrian army for the terrorists to recover, to rearm and, if possible, not to be defeated. They are among the most active agents for the horror of war to last. They are entirely and actively part of this horror about which Robert Fisk's report to The Independent, in Douma, is enlightening.

Returning to Portugal

This "humanitarian organization" is now here, in Fafe, at the invitation of the Just Earth and being the target of several fundraising actions. It is one of their many publicity and public relations activities that they organize with recognized efficiency in the western countries, taking advantage of the connivance of the media at the service of the oligarchies. Around here, they have had media coverage with great impact with the particularity of having not failed in labeling the terrorists as rebels, a delightful euphemism.

Contrast this coverage with that given to Maria de Guadalupe, the Argentine missionary nun who was in Portugal reporting her experience in the Syrian war. While the White Helmets, the paramedics of the terrorists of the Isis, of Al-Qaeda and their heteronyms, are multiply incensed and propagandized, Maria de Guadalupe had almost no air time and, despite her distancing from the conflict, she even became nicknamed the diabolical nun. Another episode of the damnation of these times we live and the enormous manipulation that surrounds us.

Os media do capital EUA&Co, media dominantes que formatam a percepção do mundo de milhares de milhões de cidadãos comuns, continuam a cumprir a sua função: enganar o povo, esconder a violência do capitalismo e transformar os opressores imperiais em «bons» e os oprimidos ou insubmissos em «maus». A isso se resume a famosa «liberdade de informação» dos países capitalistas: liberdade para um punhado de possuidores das grandes cadeias de informação poderem controlar a «música» tocada em seu benefício. E a podridão do capitalismo actual, com ameaças abertas à paz e ultimatos aos insubmissos, implica que a «música» dos media tem também de ser cada vez mais podre, cada vez mais feita de fake news (notícias falsas), cada vez mais seguidora dos preceitos do ministro de propaganda nazi Goebbels: «se repetirmos a mesma mentira um número suficiente de vezes, as pessoas irão acreditar, e quanto maior for a mentira tanto melhor». Na Síria, segundo os media do capital EUA&Co, os americanos e seus penduras, continuam a missão «libertadora» de ajuda aos terroristas – perdão, «combatentes pela liberdade» -- no combate ao regime de Bashar Al-Assad. Al-Assad, o «mau», apesar de o seu governo ter claramente um muito amplo apoio popular, conforme se confirmou ao longo da guerra. Mas os «combatentes pela liberdade» -- apoiados e financiados pelos imperialistas, pela Arábia Saudita e países do Golfo, tudo países muito livres como se sabe -- são os mesmos terroristas ligados à al-Qaida que têm cometido as maiores barbaridades em muitos lugares, incluindo nos atentados na Europa. Mas, quando se trata da Síria, são apresentados pelos media como os «bons». A fome de petróleo e a ganância do lucro falam mais alto. Como disse a jornalista independente Eva Bartlett, uma canadiana que tem estado longos períodos na Síria, foi testemunha ocular de muitos eventos de guerra e obteve larga experiência de como os media ocidentais manipulam a informação e fabricam fake news «Tudo que vos disseram sobre a Síria é uma mentira». Recentemente, o jornalista José Goulão escreveu em AbrilAbril: «Derrotados na Síria e no Médio Oriente os donos do mundo avançam para o confronto entre NATO e Moscovo. A guerra ultrapassou a fase da dúvida “se” para se fixar na dúvida “quando”. Para mal dos povos.» Isto, a propósito da história do envenenamento em Londres do espião duplo Serguei Skripal e filha, atribuído aos russos. Envenenamento que vem dar razão à «premonição» em 18 de Janeiro de 2018, do proeminente general do exército britânico Nicholas Carter que afirmou o seguinte num discurso solene e mediatizado: a agressão russa «começará mais cedo do que o previsto e através de um acontecimento imprevisto». Rússia e Putin os «maus», apesar de capitalistas. Mas capitalistas concorrentes com esferas de influências antagónicas dos interesses US&Co. Os media não poupam esforços para pré-justificar um novo drang nach Osten contra a Rússia capitalista; agora um drang não só da Alemanha como no passado, mas de «todos juntos e fé em Deus». No «Deus» do lucro, é claro. Ontem, o director do laboratório inglês que testou a substância que envenenou Skripal e a filha admitiu que não tem provas de que seja de produção russa. Mas isso já não constará das manchetes dos media do capital ocidental. Não lhes interessa. Exemplos como estes, da história passada e recente do capitalsmo, existem aos milhões. Num outro artigo de AbrilAbril intitulado «O capitalismo é violência» o autor, Bruno Carvalho, cita exemplos da Palestina, Donbass, Colômbia e Catalunha, onde a «comunicação social dá voz ao agressor e absolve a violência exercida pelos Estados implicados». E conclui o seu artigo assim: «Por todo o mundo, e crescentemente na Europa, a fascização dos Estados, a que alguns preferem chamar autoritarismo ou populismo, cresce a passos largos para defender um sistema cada vez mais incapaz de suster a crise em que se encontra e de esconder o seu carácter violento. «Foi em Abril que os militares e o povo derrotaram o império da lei e da violência fascistas para encetar um período que todavia é uma espinha encravada na garganta de alguns. Num dos mais bonitos textos escritos em português, a nossa Constituição «reconhece o direito dos povos à autodeterminação e independência e ao desenvolvimento, bem como o direito à insurreição contra todas as formas de opressão».

The media of the capitalism US&Co, the mainstream media which shapes the perception of the world for billions of common citizens, keep fulfilling their duty: the one of deceiving the people, hiding the violence of capitalism, and turning the imperial oppressors into the "good guys" and the oppressed or unsubmissive into the "bad guys." The celebrated "freedom of information" of capitalist countries boils down to this: freedom for a handful of owners of large media corporations to control the “music” being played for their benefit.And the rottenness of today's capitalism, with open threats to peace and ultimatums to the unsubmissive, implies that the "music" of the media is compelled to be increasingly rotten, increasingly made of "fake news", increasingly following the precepts of the Nazi propaganda minister Goebbels: “If you tell the same lie enough times, people will believe it; and the bigger the lie, the better.” In Syria, according to the media of the US & Co capital, the Americans and their hangers-on go on steady on their "liberating" mission, aiding the terrorists -- sorry, the "freedom fighters" -- in fighting the Bashar al-Assad regime. Al-Assad, the "bad guy", in spite of the fact that his government clearly enjoys a very broad popular support, which has been confirmed throughout the war. But the "freedom fighters" -- supported and financed by the imperialists, by Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries, all very free countries as we all know -- are the same terrorists connected to the al-Qaida who have committed the greatest barbarities in many places, including in the attacks in Europe. But when it comes to Syria, they are presented by the media as the "good guys." The hunger for oil and the greed for profit speak louder. As told by the independent journalist Eva Bartlett, a Canadian who has stayed for long periods in Syria, has been an eyewitness of many war events and got an extensive experience of how Western media manipulate information and fabricate fake news, " Everything you've been told about Syria is a lie." Recently the journalist José Goulão wrote in AbrilAbril (AprilApril): "Defeated in Syria and the Middle East, the owners of the world are pushing towards the confrontation between NATO and Moscow. The war has passed the stage of the ‘if’ doubt to fix itself on the ‘when’ doubt.  To the detriment of the peoples." He was referring to the story of the poisoning in London of the double spy Serguei Skripal and daughter, attributed to the Russians. A poisoning whose occurrence justified the "premonition" on 18 January 2018 of the prominent British Army Gen. Nicholas Carter, who said the following in a solemn and mediated speech: Russian aggression "will begin sooner than planned and through an unforeseen event". Russia and Putin the "bad guys," albeit capitalists. But competing capitalists with spheres of influence antagonistic of the US & Co interests. The media spare no effort to pre-justify a new drang nach Osten against capitalist Russia; this time, not only a drang from Germany as in the past, but from "all together and faith in God." In the "God" of profit, of course. Yesterday, the head of the British laboratory that tested the substance that poisoned Skripal and daughter admitted that he has no evidence that it is of Russian production. But this will not make the headlines of the Western capitalist media. It does not interest them. Examples like these, from past and recent history of the capitalism, exist in the millions. In another article of AprilApril with the title “Capitalism is violence”, the author, Bruno Carvalho, gives examples from Palestine, Donbass, Colombia and Catalonia, where "the media gives voice to the aggressor and acquits the states involved from their violence". He concludes his article thus: "All over the world, and increasingly in Europe, the fascistization of states, which some prefer to call authoritarianism or populism, is struggling to defend a system increasingly incapable of stemming the crisis it is in and of hiding its violent character. "[Referring to the Portuguese revolution] It was in April that the military and the people defeated the empire of fascist law and violence to start a period that is still a spine stuck in the throats of some people. In one of the most beautiful texts written in Portuguese, our Constitution ‘recognizes the right of peoples to self-determination and independence and to development, as well as the right to insurrection against all forms of oppression’."

A Luta dos Trabalhadores da Somincor

Um largo conjunto de grandes lutas laborais decorre em todo o país. Trabalhadores da administração pública, das lojas da EDP, da Nobre Alimentação, dos mineiros da Somincor, dos trabalhadores das grandes cadeias de distribuição, dos CTT (pela revogação da privatização e não só), enfermeiros, docentes do ensino secundário, etc., lutam por actualização de salários (Portugal é um dos poucos países da UE onde os salários continuam abaixo do nível de 2010), descongelamento de carreiras, fim da precariedade e outros direitos laborais como a actualização de contratos colectivos de trabalho. A CGTP-IN é o grande e único apoio dos trabalhadores nas suas lutas por melhores condições de vida.

O PS tem vindo a aliar-se à direita. Conforme refere Rui Sá no seu artigo de Opinião no JN (19 de Março), «Perante as propostas do PCP para alterar a legislação laboral, fazendo reverter as medidas mais gravosas tomadas por vários governos PSD/CDS, o PS aliou-se a estes partidos para chumbar estas iniciativas. Sendo pelo menos coerente com aquilo que fez (e Vieira da Silva era, na mesma, o ministro do Trabalho) aquando do Governo de Sócrates -- que, recorde-se, levava o patrão da CIP, Pedro Ferraz da Costa […] a dizer que, em matéria laboral, os governos do PS eram melhores do que os da Direita. […] o PS, que já antes tinha chumbado a reposição do valor das horas extraordinárias (cortadas pelo PSD/CDS), chumbou agora, entre outras medidas, o fim da caducidade dos contratos coletivos de trabalho. […] o que levou diversas associações patronais a protelar a negociação de novos contratos, impondo a caducidade [dos já existentes] -- para, a partir daí, ficar com mãos livres para impor, a cada trabalhador, as suas próprias condições». BE, PEV e PAN têm apoiado propostas do PCP em matéria laboral.

Uma luta emblemática contra a brutal exploração e repressão patronal ao serviço do capital estrangeiro é a dos trabalhadores da Somincor, empresa canadiana do grupo Lundin Mining que detém a concessão da mina de Neves-Corvo, perto de Almodôvar. A mina de Neves-Corvo, onde laboram 2000 trabalhadores, é a segunda maior mina de cobre e de zinco da Europa. Em 2016 produziu cerca de 46,5 mil toneladas de cobre e 69,5 mil toneladas de zinco gerando um lucro da ordem de 67 milhões de euros. A Somincor facturou da ordem de 6 mil milhões de euros de exportações em dez anos. Detida a 100% pela Lundin Mining a mina responde por quase 20% das receitas deste grupo que desenvolve actividade mineira nos Estados Unidos, Finlândia, Suécia, Chile e República Democrática do Congo.

Os trabalhadores da Somincor reivindicam o fim do regime de laboração contínua no fundo da mina, a «humanização» dos horários de trabalho, a antecipação da idade da reforma para os funcionários das lavarias (trabalho pesado), a progressão nas carreiras, a revogação das alterações unilaterais na política de prémios e o «fim da pressão e da repressão sobre os trabalhadores».

Os protestos com greve dos trabalhadores da Somincor remontam a 2017, com três períodos de greve (3 a 7 de Outubro, 6 a 11 de Novembro, com deslocação ao Ministério do Trabalho no dia 10, e de 22, 27 e 29 de Dezembro). Em Fevereiro deste ano, foi convocada uma greve devido à ausência de uma proposta palpável da administração para resolver o conflito laboral. Mais tarde, em plenário, a maioria dos trabalhadores aceitou a suspensão da greve perante a marcação de reuniões com a administração com novas propostas.

Entretanto, em 18 de Março e por unanimidade em plenário geral, os trabalhadores aprovaram a realização de paralizações entre 26 a 30 de Março, em resposta à atitude «irredutível» da administração nas negociações e em solidariedade para com os encarregados afastados, em retaliação por recusarem ceder no apoio à greve. Em declarações à Lusa, Jacinto Anacleto, dirigente do Sindicato dos Trabalhadores da Indústria Mineira (STIM/CGTP-IN), explicou que a administração «não quer negociar», está «irredutível e só interessada em fazer vingar as suas propostas». «E para agravar a situação, a administração da Somincor, que lida mal com a democracia, afastou quatro encarregados gerais das lavarias da mina por terem usado o direito à greve», acusou, considerando tratar-se de uma «atitude antidemocrática, inadmissível e inaceitável».

Para além da posição irredutível da administração em atender a melhorias das condições de trabalho (isto, numa empresa que, como vimos, gera lucros chorudos!), ela recorre também aos métodos de repressão velhos como o capitalismo:

-- Ameaças de não pagamento dos salários.

-- Lock-out.

-- Tentativas de suborno de dirigentes dos trabalhadores.

-- Retaliações contra activistas e dirigentes dos trabalhadores que demonstram consciência de classe e não se deixam corromper.

-- Utilização da GNR para furar os piquetes de greve. Uma ilustração do uso das forças repressivas do Estado democrático-burguês ao serviço do capital, com o consentimento tácito das autoridades burguesas.

Quanto a retaliações e tentativas de suborno, uma das causas da nova marcação de greve, a situação é explicada em comunicado do STIM: a 7 de Março, os trabalhadores em causa foram convocados para uma reunião com os directores das lavarias e dos recursos humanos, na qual lhes foi comunicado o seu afastamento das funções de encarregados – que desempenhavam há 30 anos!!! «Uma vingança», afirma o sindicato, como retaliação ao apoio que têm dado à causa dos colegas, sendo que eles próprios também estiveram em greve. Após uma tentativa de suborno fracassada, para colaborarem contra a greve, foram despromovidos e convidados a sair da empresa.
